Board of Education

School District Governance Policy

The District is governed by of Board of Education consisting of 7 members. The Board’s powers and duties include the authority to adopt, enforce, and monitor all policies for the management and governance of the District’s schools.

Official action by the Board of Education may only occur at a duly called and legally conducted meeting at which a quorum is physically present.

Board of Education members, as individuals, have no authority over school affairs, except as provided by law or as authorized by the Board.

The Board of Education members are elected for overlapping four-year terms. Elections are held in April in odd-numbered years.

The superintendent of schools is selected by the Board and serves as the chief executive officer responsible for the administration and management of the district schools in accordance with Board policies and directives and State and Federal Law.

IASB Board Member Qualifications

All Illinois school board members must receive training in Professional Development Leadership (P.A. 97-8) and the Open Meetings Act (P.A. 97-504). Mandatory training will also be required after the new teacher evaluation requirements are implemented in each school district. For additional information, see Board policy 2:120, Board Member Development.

Freedom of Information Act

Requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act are to be submitted to the FOIA Officer in writing via postal mail, fax, email, or in person at the address listed above. No fee is charged for the first 50 pages of black and white, letter or legal sized copies. The fee for additional copies is 15 cents per page. Color copies or a size other than letter or legal will be charged the actual cost for reproducing the records. The charge for certifying a document is $1.00.
